Omsan Logistics, an OYAK Group Company, continues its efforts to comply with the European Green Deal and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which are among the main agenda items of the logistics industry. Entitled to receive the ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System Certificate, Omsan Logistics became one of the leading companies in Türkiye to receive this certificate.

Omsan Logistics, the leading brand of the logistics industry with its digital, integrated, sustainable and customer-oriented services, quickly adapts to the changes and transformations in the world and the industry. Carrying out meticulous efforts for many years within the scope of the European Green Deal and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which are among the most important topics of many sectors today, Omsan Logistics has taken another important step in this regard by obtaining ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System Certificate. Omsan Logistics, one of the pioneering companies in the logistics sector to obtain this certificate, continues to move rapidly towards its goal of becoming a global company.

ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System, a set of international standards that includes criteria for the management of greenhouse gas emissions and greenhouse gas projects, covers the processes of calculating, reporting, verifying and certifying greenhouse gas emissions.

The ISO 14064 verification process includes the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions from Omsan Logistics’ activities based on international standards and verification by an accredited company. Thus, the emissions arising from Omsan Logistics’ activities will be based on a scientific basis and can be taken as a reference to create scientifically based targets in the following years.

Omsan Logistics, “Türkiye’s first private train operator with a railway train operation authorization certificate”, shares the scorecard created as a result of its sustainability-related activities with its customers through the Ecovadis application, an international platform. Omsan Logistics, which received the “Green Logistics Certificate” issued by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Directorate General for Regulation of Transportation Services, is also one of the first logistics companies to receive this certificate.

Constitutional Court foresees sweeping changes in EU policies

On December 11, 2019, the European Union (EU) announced that it would adopt a new growth strategy and reshape all its policies in line with climate change in order to achieve its goal of “becoming the first climate-neutral continent” in 2050 with the European Green Deal (EGC).

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is one of the most important steps of the European Green Deal, which envisages comprehensive changes in EU policies in a number of areas ranging from industry to finance, energy to transportation, buildings to agriculture, that will affect international trade. The mechanism, which aims to regulate carbon emissions between countries, approaches carbon emissions from a cross-border perspective. Under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, a country trying to control emissions within its own borders must also pay attention to the carbon emissions generated in the production of imported products.

Acting with awareness of its responsibilities

Within the scope of the European Green Deal and European Union harmonization processes, Omsan Logistics has taken an important step by completing the calculation, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions for its activities in accordance with the ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System. The company continues its efforts to plan the necessary investments and make its logistics activities more efficient.
